Gender and ICTs Network

What place for women in the ICTs sector ?

The Gender and ICTs Network (regentic) is a follow-up of the Workshop "Gender dimensions of ICT policies in Senegal", (ENDA-ART-OSIRIS, Dakar, Senegal, November 2002), held with the support of the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) to promote gender analysis of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) Sector in Senegal and initiate a dialogue process between the regulation authorities, women's organizations and civil society working for gender justice in Senegal.

Mission :
Facilitating dialogue

Facilitating dialogue and consultation between women's organizations, civil society and the actors in the ICTs sector, to promote gender equality, peace and development in the national, African and global Information Society.
The network members are individuals and organizations active to promote gender equality in the ICTs sector.

The network work in partnership with actors from the public, private, national and international sectors, engaged in cooperation for development.

Objectifs :
ICTs for all

To promote and facilitate, in coordination with national actors and international partners, the local appropriation of and participation in decision-making processes in the ICTs sector, with a gender equality perspective:

  • Promoting women's organizations and civil society capacities and gender & ICTs expertise, and facilitating their concerted action.
  • Advocating for the inclusion of gender relations and civil society's perspectives in the formulation and implementation of ICT policies.
  • Participating in the consulting and advising of information, communication and regulatory bodies.

  • Research : gender-disaggregated data and indicators
  • Promoting a critical number of active women in the ICTs sector
  • Advocating for inclusion of gender issues in the ICT policies
  • Participating to consultation and decision-making in ICT policies
  • Promoting mechanisms to foster gender justice in the ICT sector
